Stars for First Responders

Stars for First Responders

Join us in honoring our beloved first responders, military personnel & veterans, by writing their name down on a star to be proudly displayed in our branches between May 1st – July 5th!

Stars will be provided by the branches in three different colors: red, white, and blue. Simply ask for a star and write the name of someone you want to honor along with their position (e.g. EMT, Firefighter, Army Veteran, etc.). Staff will take them and put them on display! All branches are displaying these stars differently, so feel free to venture out to as many as you can.

May 4 marks the annual International Firefighters Day, which was first observed in 1999 after five firefighters died while trying to contain a wildfire in Victoria, Australia. It includes an international “Sound Off” on the first Sunday in May when, at noon local time each year, fire sirens will sound for 30 seconds worldwide followed by a minute of silence in memory of those who have died in the line of duty. — Honoring First Responders in May | First Responder Network Authority (firstnet.gov)

May 15-21, 2022, is the 47th annual National EMS Week. In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation’s communities. — National EMS Week (naemt.org)

The 2022 EMS Week theme: “EMS: Rising to the Challenge.” This theme is particularly meaningful now, to remind people that every day we are faced with so many new challenges in our lives and yet we still rise above them all and continue to respond, support, and care for the needs of our communities. — ACEP // EMS Week
