This year’s theme is Unearth a Story. We invite readers of all ages to dig into great books and uncover the stories, histories, and discoveries buried within. The program runs from:
June 15th to August 8th, 2026
and is for all ages! We have three programs and reading logs, separated by age group: Children, Teen, and Adult. You may register at any point throughout the Summer Reading Program, but the deadline to log your completed books is Saturday, August 8th at 5:00 pm.
How to Participate
Stop into your local branch to pick up a reading log. Registration starts on Monday, June 15th, but you can register at any point throughout the summer. If you plan to be away during the program, you can still participate during the week or weeks you are here.
Children & Teens
- Write your first & last name, age, and branch inside your log.
- Write down how many minutes you read each day in a dinosaur footprint. Any reading or listening counts, and it’s okay if you don’t read every day!
- Bring the log back to the branch once each week between Monday, June 22nd and Saturday, August 8th to receive a prize. One prize is given per week. No prizes given for missed weeks.
Adults
- Use the log to help you keep track of what you’ve read.
- Stop into your branch anytime between Monday, June 22nd and Saturday, August 8th to report what you’ve read.
- Each completed book will earn you a raffle ticket entry into your local branch’s Adult Summer Reading Program raffle.
Reading Dinos
MCLS has created a systemwide game for summer called Reading Dinos (similar to Rock, Paper, Scissors)! Sign up for the Summer Reading Program at any of our branches, then ask a librarian about Reading Dinos to pick up a starter pack of cards and instructions. You can collect more cards at each of our 9 branches, with one exclusive card that you can only get at each branch! Once you’ve got your starter pack, you’re ready to play with friends, but visit us often to collect more cards to level up your deck!
