About
Welcome to the Ewing Branch of the Mercer County Library System – MCLS’s First Branch!
On September 15, 1958, the first branch of the Mercer County Library System opened in a shopping center on Parkway Avenue in Ewing, New Jersey. Three years later, on October 16, 1961, the Ewing Branch moved to Scotch Road and was the headquarters branch of the Mercer County Library System until its final move in 1983.
Today’s Ewing Branch, originally constructed in 1983 and expanded in 1996, is a 25,000 sq. ft. library that houses over 110,000 circulating items–including print and digital resources for in-house use–and a spacious and comfortable environment where you can quietly work, read, and study.

Spread among the branch’s adult, young adult, and children’s sections, our circulating collections include books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, Blu-rays, music CDs, and other audiovisual devices, such as PlayAways and Books on CD. Our print collections include classics, best sellers, and new releases, as well as alternative formats including large print and foreign language.
Much like our collection, the Ewing Branch offers programs for all ages. These programs include recurring monthly and weekly programs: book clubs, movies, and craft classes for adult; teen activities; and crafts, activities, story times and singalongs for children of all ages. Additionally, the Ewing Branch offers special presentations from local historians, business and health professionals, and other community outreach organizations throughout the year.

The Ewing Branch also provides its patrons with access to public PCs, black & white and color printers, copiers, scanners, individual work stations and carrels, and a quiet study room. Other services available include test proctoring, notaries, and three community rooms available for reservation. Patrons are welcome to relax in our main reading room and open space area in our adult section, lend a hand with the community jigsaw puzzles, and enjoy monthly art displays located throughout the library. And, why not consider joining our Friends of the Ewing Library group (a nonprofit organization) and volunteer to help out at our book sales? The variety of programs offered by the Ewing Branch is partially made possible by our Friends! Brochures and applications are available at the branch.
For more than 65 years, the Ewing Branch continues to provide for its community and support Mercer County patrons, welcoming all that come through its doors. It is our hope that you will become, and continue to be lifelong readers, users, and supporters of your library. We hope to see you soon!
